State the nature of your problem: While choosing a category in a dropdown menu the category title (in Russian) changes - turns into a strange sequence of symbols, just like the names of characters (I did not come across this bug in the previous, i.e. 3.2.1, eFiction version).
The page to illustrate the problem http://obi-wan.alt-air.ru/efiction/browse.php?type=titles The first dropdown menu is a category, next two are the characters.
The same problem appears while editing the story - both in the title of the whole story and the title of a chapter. (It exists in 3.2.1 as well)

I have this on my archive too, but it's not Russian characters.
P&S shows up as P&S in the categories selection.

I need a link to see the problem. Previous 2 urls are gone. This is an encoding issue of some sort.
I decided to not use categories because more problem have arised (with charset as I can guess) so I can't provide a link now. ((
But my work is not finished yet if I'll decide to use it I'll post here once again.

Problems:
As stated above
1. While choosing a category in a dropdown menu the category title (in Russian) changes - turns into a strange sequence of symbols
2. Also names of characters changes (it happens only when you trying to choose a category. If you started with choosing characters and left category in peace nothing happens, all is fine. But once you disturb the category youll never see proper characters again)
3. The same happens while adding new story - when you choose category it changes and names of characters changes also.
4. while editing the story both the title of the whole story and the title of a chapter changes (you must retype it and then it appear correctly)
5. And there is one more problem. When adding a new story, the words "Chapter 1" display incorrectly. It was discussed here:

and a solution was found (changing "htmlentities" to "htmlspecialchars" in "stories.php" on line 243) but I failed to use it because I cant find "htmlentities" in "stories.php" in 3.5.1 (but this possibly because Im very unexperienced and unlucky user)

There's a fix in the SVN repository. It works, but it's not pretty. It'll eventually be replaced.
