URL to your eFiction: Infinite Whispers
Version of eFiction: 3.2.1
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?: No.
Version of PHP: 4.4.4
Version of MySQL: 4.0.25
Have you searched for your problem: Yes.
If so, what terms did you try: Searched for terms relating to "Members Only, Age Consent, Viewing Stories"
Question: Is it normal that one could click the direct link to a story (even while not logged in) and view that story, when the story should have been only shown to logged in members? Before the upgrade, I didn't have this problem. 🙁
Is there a way to fix this? I think it would defeat the purpose of the the "registered users only" feature if non-registered users can still see the the story.
Hi again.
Just thought I'd find out if anyone else is having the same problem I'm having with people being able to view the story with the exact URL. I've actually found a few problems, but instead of posting several times with new topics, can you tell me if it would be hard reverting back to 2.0 version (If there is no fix for the registered members bug)?
It would be very hard reverting back to 2.0. The 3.0 update script changes the structure of the database... there is no reverse. You would have to just replace the old 2.0 database you have, which would not include any changes since you last saved it to your computer.
You should wait for a bit. Usually most bugs or problems are figured out with a little time.

Once again. Can't see it...can't try to fix it. You gave the URL then took the site down. Please give us the information on the rating you're having trouble with. What do you have it set as, what options are checked for the rating, etc. It's working fine on my site. On registered users only ratings it's taking me to the login page if I'm not logged in.
It's back up now. I reverted back to the 2.0 version. I will wait until after the bug fixes to upgrade to version 3.
What I was saying is that, I was able to view the story without even going to my site to do so. An example: If I typed the url: infinite-whispers.com/Fiction/viewstory.php?sid=28 in my browser box, I would have been taken directly to the story (while I was using the upgraded software version). But I don't have that problem with the 2.0 version. I have it set for registered users only, which is what it has always been.
Well I just pasted your url into my browser and got right to the story with no problems just now. Maybe you forgot to turn on that feature?

Mucking around in eFiction since circa 2001 (ver. 1.0)
Now running v.3
Oops, that one is not adult story. I just picked one at random. http://infinite-whispers.com/Fiction/user.php?sid=581 That one should be rated R. If you can go directly to that one, then definitely something is going wrong. I've checked and re-checked and the settings are set for "registered members only."
On line 43 of viewstory.php change rating = to rid =.
$ratingquery = dbquery("SELECT ratingwarning, warningtext FROM ".TABLEPREFIX."fanfiction_ratings WHERE rid = '".$storyinfo['rid']."' LIMIT 1");
I did do as you say to do, but when I logged in and tried to view the story, I get the following error:
Error!
You are not authorized to access that function. Registered Users Only
That was while I was logged in. I then logged out and tried to view the story and I got the same error. At first it read the error you get when you haven't check for the age consent box. (Which mine is already checked "yes") I went back to my profile to make sure that it was checked and it was. For some reason, it will not show me the story even if I'm logged i and have the age consent box checked. 🙁

Version: 3.2.1
Modules: Challenges, MS Word, Betareader, Recommendations.
Modifications: No.
Problem: Only registered members shoul'd be able to access nc-17 rated stories. This works as long as the user clicks the story directly from the site. But when he enters the direct link to the story, no warning-popup is displayed!
Example: http://www.hpffworld.de/efiction/viewstory.php?sid=590
The author of this story found the direct link via google and was able to access it even if he was logged out of the site. I checked my rating configuration, but everything was OK.
Any ideas how to fix this?
I'm merging this topic with the other related one to better keep track of the same bugs.

Upgraded to 3.3, the bug is still valid.
Confirm.
Is there something we can do to prevent people reading protected stories?
I have installed Efiction 3.3 on 2 sites, and upgraded it from 2.0.7 to 3.3 on other two sites, and I'd prefer to keep the adult stories protected.
Link to my efiction is: http://aleheartilly.altervista.org/stella/index.php
I give only one link since the situation is the same on all 4 sites.
Thanks in advance for you help.

Nothing new on this front?
No, doesn't seem so.
Edit: Looks like I spoke too soon! try 3.3.1 and let us know if it's still an issue.
