Hi there,
my SO had the issue of mails getting a weird subject lately, mainly consisting of "ISO-8859-1" and some special characters, which had mails get spam-tagged for some recipients.
While trying to find a solution to this, my first approach was to update the mailer class included.
And although the currently used class was "only" 13 years old, updating it did the job, so for anybody having the same issue, there is a fix available at https://github.com/eFiction/v3_stable .
If your board is modified, only uplad these files from above package:
./includes/class.phpmailer.php (new)
./includes/class.smtp.php (new)
./includes/PHPMailerAutoload.php (new)
./includes/emailer.php (this will change an eFiction 3 file, backup before)
./languages/mailer/* (those come with the mailer class and are not new eFiction language files)
If these changes work for you, you can delete these files and folders:
./includes/phpmailer_include.php
./includes/smtp_include.php
./includes/language/phpmailer.lang-*.php
