Glad to see an update issued to the software. I have done an upgrade from 3.5 and while some issues have resolved (I can add a co- author to a story, for example) other issues remain. This topic will deal with the most major issues I've had.

Version of eFiction: 3.5.1
Have you bridged eFiction, if so with what?:
Version of PHP: 5
Version of MySQL: 5
Have you searched for your problem: read through recent 3.5.1 bug threads
If so, what terms did you try:
Do you have a test account for us? No
Problem 1) I cannot validate new authors or stories
I get this error when I try: Notice: Use of undefined constant _NOTAUTHORIZEDADMIN - assumed '_NOTAUTHORIZEDADMIN' in /home/thunder4/public_html/tcfans/fanfiction/admin/validate.php on line 140
Odd, given I am the only admin and a level 1. Never had trouble til the 3.5 update, and problem remains with 3.5.1
My settings have always been to pre-approve new authors and stories.
Then when I go to this author's page, I see the option to 'revoke validation' as if it actually worked, but there is no story there. In fact, his story count appears as -1
The authror page can be seen here:
http://www.thundercatsfans.org/tcfans/fanfiction/viewuser.php?uid=95
In all my years running efiction, I've never seen somebody with a negative story count!
Problem 2) Stories duplicate upon editing co-author info
This is a new issue unique to the 3.5.1 upgrade. I was testing the update to see if I could now add a new co-author to one of my stories - something that did not work under 3.5 for me.
I was happy to see I can add the author, but found an unexpected error - updating that information makes that story appear twice in my user panel with all the same stats. Unsure if I should delete one or not, fearing it'll delete both instances. When I look at my profile page, the story shows twice as well:
http://www.thundercatsfans.org/tcfans/fanfiction/viewuser.php?uid=1
Tried refresh in case it was an odd glitch, but duplicate entry still there.
Problem 3) Unable to add new chapter
Discovered this upon testing 3.5.1 upgrade - tried adding a test chapter to one of my stories, and I get the same problem I had with 3.5 no matter the method tried to add - text file, pasting text in the field, uploading an approved file format etc - it tells me I must put text in the text area first (the exact wording: You must include the text of your story either as an upload or as input into the textarea.). In 3.5, it would say this but when you checked the story, the new work was there it just would not show the right 'last updated' date to the story.
With the upgrade, however, it doesn't add the new work no matter what you do.
I also tested adding a new story. It only works if you paste text into the text area. Uploading any kind of approved file format fails. That is minor, as at least one method works, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
Additional info: I made sure all copies of new files were uploaded during the upgrade.
I apologize if I should have made three different topics, but I am really pressed for time today. And let me know if any more information is needed. I will try to check back often. Thanks in advance for any advice. I really like efiction and would like to continue using it. I've been using efiction since its early days, and have not had much troubles until the 3.5 upgrade, and was hoping the 3.5.1 update would resolve the bugs.
For the count problem, have you tried using the recalculation tools in Admin > Archive Maintenance? That usually helps.
This might be a little trickier though. I think you should look in your fanfiction_stories and fanfiction_chapters tables and see if the data for the newly submitted stories is being put in there properly.
There are two other things you should do: 1) Make sure you have a reliable FTP program. Reupload all the files again, in case something was missed. 2) Double-check your database. This is tedious, but compare it to the tables/fields as specified in install/install.php and the input stuff in update.php. (ie. not the actual structure itself, but what the data is supposed to look like inside.)
The reason I say this is that my test site is on 3.5.1 with previously having been on 3.5. I have the same versions of PHP and MySQL, and I don't have any of these issues. This makes me think that either something's not installed properly or it's something unique to your server. I know that when I upgraded that site from 3.4.3 to 3.5 a whole bunch of the upgrade script didn't run.
Thank you.
Yes, I have tried all the archive maitenance options available in the admin panel to no avail.
What you say about the database makes sense, and I will try all your suggestions. Thank you so much for trying to help.
I'll post back here as to whether the database check works or not, in case others have been having the same issues.

You're getting things mixed up here. You're error is from validating a STORY. The "Revoke Validation" link on a user's profile is to revoke the AUTHOR's validation.
For validating the story, your problem is that you've set yourself to have categories you oversee, but that story isn't in one of those categories. Remove your categories at the following link on your site:

Check your naughty words list. If it's empty. Make sure it's really empty...doesn't include spaces or something. Also make sure your allowed tags include at least <p> and <br>. My best guess is one of those issues is deleting your story text.
Please update as to whether or not this has been fixed (newest SVN files) by testing on your archive. Thank you!
