I wanted to change a chapter of a story I have published on my archive, so I went to my account > Manage Stories, selected the story in question, went to the chapter in question, and selected "Edit." Once I got to the editing page, though, I was immediately prompted (without me pressing anything) to choose a file (e.g. upload). I canceled out of the dialog box and was allowed to continue, so I copy-pasted the HTML from my file into the appropriate boxes. Weirdly, turning TinyMCE *off* seemed to turn it on (TinyMCE hasn't been displaying for me lately, but when I unticked the box under the Header and Story Text boxes, suddenly TinyMCE was there!). Once my content was there, I clicked Preview, just to verify, but again, the Choose File dialog came up! It also happened when I did Add Story.

The changes still went through, but I thought this was an odd enough error (and annoying, too) that I should bring it up here.

Can I get a link and a test account?  I'm not seeing this on any of my archives.

What browser were you using?  It's not doing this to me in FF or IE.

I will say that sometimes I have this same thing happen on my archive. When submitting a story, when you hit submit it will pop up and ask for even if you didn't touch the browse button/file box. I've just learned to live w/ it myself, but it doesn't always happen.

I've experienced it in FF3 and Crhome 2 & 3. Not sure I tried it in IE or Safari4 or Konqueror.

Interesting. Azurite, I logged into your test account on FF 3, IE 8, Safari 4 (Windows) and Chrome, and I couldn't replicate the file upload popup. But I did see what you were talking about with TinyMCE on Safari and Chrome (both webkit, maybe that's part of it?). However on FF and IE it showed up off the bat, as it should.

It is curious. When I submite a story on FF 3.5.1 I don't have a popup for file upload, but on Chrome yes and on IE6 dont  πŸ˜•

When I was testing this out, it was only with editing an existing story, not uploading a new story/chapter. I don't know if it makes a difference if the story/chapter was originally uploaded using the File Upload or the Copy/Paste method.

If I did Preview, the File Upload would come up and I'd cancel out of it. The page seems to refresh with a preview of the chnages. If I then did Add Story, it would come up again. I don't even have to cancel out of that window for the story to actually get updated, but I do have to click cancel or choose a file to get the File Upload window to go away. This is only happening with actual story content, not with the story info, e.g. the Summary, Categories, and so forth.

Okay, it's doing it consistently for me in Chrome, but I can't see anything that would cause it.  The weird thing is, I KNOW this section hasn't changed.  So what's causing this?  And why only in certain browsers?

ETA: Found it, I think.  It's a mismatched tag in the chapter form.  Update is going into the SVN now.

Should I grab it (and any other updated files) from the SVN, or is it better to wait for the next "official" release?

It's up to you.  These are the files that will be in the next official release unless something changes.  This particular change is miniscule and shouldn't cause any problems.

You know, I had a similar problem when I switched hosts. It ended up being because the old host was forcing PHP5 using an .htaccess, where as the new host didn't need to do that, but the .htaccess settings got transferred in the cPanel transfer, thus causing that to happen. Maybe that's helpful?
