eFiction/Wordpress-Plugin
« on: July 03, 2012, 08:24:51 am »
Hi there!

Some days ago I stumbled on something juicy I thought some other eFiction-users might be interested in, too.
It's some kind of eFiction plugin for wordpress and it's in development. So it's up to you, to help with your suggestions, ideas and wishes to make it as awesome as possible.

It really would be great to have such a plugin, so it's up to you to help!

More information

Well, I hope I used the correct forum.

Thank you for this, I really don't want to see efiction die, because I love it so much, but I am glad there is an alternative...

Hi

I read that too! But she said that another can take it over and ask her for help on it she doesn't have time on it. That would be a great idea!

Hello everyone. I'm one of the owners of a major efiction fanfiction archive which has been building a new WordPress alternative to efiction websites, and transferring over 2,000 members and 3,000 stories/books to the new website. This project has been going on for over 2 years, and our investment has exceeded $20K. We are about 80% completed with the project. Other websites can safely join us to preserve their efiction archives once it's done.
Our new website will be both fanfiction and social media in purpose.

We will be open to any form of fiction, nonfiction, fanfiction, photos, art, literature, videos, and music. Each member will have their own profile website complete with custom blog pages, and ability to store their private media items.
It should be revolutionary, and totally secure online against the latest threats which now plague efiction websites.

Bob here with an update on the new WordPress website SSW.media, which has migrated a huge efiction site into it.

Despite complications with this prototype project - never done before - I'd say we are about 90+% completed with the new website.
Just killing bugs now, and looking at possible new features:
> A custom efiction Importer plugin which will make it possible for authors to import an entire story/book from ANY efiction website (vaporware at the moment) - Images too, maybe.
> A custom plugin for downloading our books into e-readers
> Each member has a free WordPress profile website with blogs, books, albums, images, music, videos, chat, messaging, file transfer, and whatever more we can add to it that is  :cool2:

If you have an efiction website, and want to protect and preserve your site's fanfiction database and give your members a new alternative to social media which will never data mine their activities, we are for you, and we plan to develop the ability to transfer entire efiction website databases and members directly into our new fanfiction/social media site.

Exciting times are just around the corner!

So is your goal with this software to have one large, multi-fandom archive, similar to AO3 or ff.net, but with WordPress add-ons like blogs, etc.? Not something like efiction where people can create their own individual archives? You mentioned that a lot of funding went into this project, who is paying for it? You mentioned that a large archive has already been migrated over, do you have a preview of the site that we can look at?

Just a quick reminder:

Although I know this project isn't remotely moving along as fast as desired, this is still a forum about eFiction and free add-ons.
So if you are offering a free addition to this project, be our guest, but if this is becoming a commercial ad, I will remove it. And you mentioning these funds does quite much point to that, so please consider this advice.
