Custom 3.5.8 version available - released

The 3.5.8 version was released because I already have versions 3.6 and 4.0 in progress.

I hope you understand that I can't manage so many versions.

So this is the last version for efiction 3.5. I will create a new version 3.5.9 only if there is a serious bug (fatal error) or there is some my mistake.

So this version is mainly for saving old archives.

Many thanks to all who helped me with testing, and offering a database to develop with. Without you, I would never get so far.

Custom 3.5.8 version available - notification module

I marked this version with tag 3.5.8.0 because there is no update needed, almost nobody uses this and it is annoying still change version number.

Notification module added and inbuilt functionality:

- send email about new registered user with direct profile link (thanks Jaded for this idea)

- send email about user asked for new password

You can set those notifications on/off. Multiple emails (separated by comma) are allowed and tested.

How to use:

- standard module (upload only those files)

- update user/editbio.php and lostpassword.php files. (just add some lines of the code)

On github repo - there is exactly seen what was changed.

3.5.8 fixed a little bug in URL settings - not accepted https in site URL.

Direct update from 3.5.5 is possible - preferred in fact. The update process was improved, you will get the message for each field that wasn't updated correctly.

Be sure that your database server supports INET6 functionality - if it doesn't, your IPs in online and logs tables are not saved, nothing more.

Tinymce4 settings were fixed, added the image list functionality, so tinymce3 will be probably removed in the next version.

PS. Challenges for the next version:

- notification about user registration

- bad behavior or other antispam system (Recaptcha, turnstile)

But what bothers me the most (except PDO) - using eval() functionality for code block functionality. Any ideas?

Custom 3.6.0 version available

This version renames 4 files with conflict names for future development and is the base for version 4. There are listed bugs I found now.

I use this Versioning Guidelines:

All versioning should attempt to follow the Semantic Versioning guidelines.

Given a version number MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH (e.g v0.0.0), increment the:

MAJOR version when you make incompatible API changes,

MINOR version when you add functionality in a backward-compatible manner, and

PATCH version when you make backward-compatible bug fixes.

so this version is still back-compatible and the update should fix stuff.

I added translation files and tested with a different language than English.

The test was done with PHP 8.2.0

My personal roadmap:

3.6.1 - If needed, clean skins and docs folders

4.0.x:

- Study how bridges work

- Fix sessions and registration (with e107 bridge or something like that)

- Fix email sending

- Separate installation for customized e107

5.x - study how version 5 works and implement most of it.

5.x - study bulma framework versus

A lot changed for me when I could finally install version 5.x from GitHub. Unfortunately, there are a lot of fatal errors (I can see some pages) and I am not able to fix them, but that work was awesome and it will be a great inspiration. I was afraid to use e107 for the efiction update, but version 5.x is doing the same thing, it just used a framework I am not familiar with it.

6.x - one installation

I need this for one of my archives, if there is any conflict or confusion with the future official version, I just rename it and make private repos of it.

For now, there is no update.

It would be nice if somebody tests this, but I use it myself, as soon as I will update online site, our users will test it too :)

Hello,

maybe numbering is confusing but there are no plans to use this as the official version. PLEASE, don't use it on the live site.

I just made the repo (source code) of the fixed 3.5.5 version for PHP 8.1 (8.2) here:

I left all issues I found to be opened for you to see what needs to be fixed. Older fixes are in the 3.5.5 fixed archive (they have been known very long time).

There is a database change of all date fields because there are changes in PHP 8 related to dates and this was mandatory for my next development.

Use it freely to make a better new efiction version.

I would appreciate it if somebody tested it. If not, nothing to do, I will do it while working on the next steps. For me was hard to start over and over from so outdated 3.5.5 version, so this is my personal starting point for my future development.

I can't use it on the live site because of outdated functionality (you have been using it for years but I am paranoid a bit about this, I need to fix it at first. ).

I can't test it more because I don't have enough archive data.

On github, there is a discussion inbuilt too, I copied some interesting topics from here, just don't lose them. I hope you don't mind it.

3.5.5 released

Well, it's been a bit but I finally scratched a few fixes together and this means:

Version 3.5.5 is out, including:

Fixed SQL vulnerability

Several fixes on the installer, it should work now. Like, really.

It's not much, but version 3.5.x is looking to retire at some point so there isn't much work put into it anymore.

Note for people with running eFiction sites:

If you have already taken care of the SQL vulnerability (fix to be found here on this board), there is no need to install this release, I would actually advise you don't.

3.5.3 Released

This is another small bug fix release. This release collects all the small fixes that have been posted in the SVN over the last few months.

I'm still working on version 4. We have a few of the other devs checking out an alpha version at the moment. I may try to put up a preview on my site for everyone in the next couple weeks.

3.5.2 Released

This is a bug fix release that should correct almost all of the outstanding issues. The only exception I'm sure of is the Russian character issues. I've also started working on version 4 which will be a complete re-write from the ground up. It's fairly early stages on that right now, but it is moving along.

I'm going to wait to put off an official release until after I've recovered from my surgery so I'll be around if there are any serious problems. In the mean time, you guys could help me out greatly by checking out the open bugs and posting a reply to those that are confirmed closed. That way when I get back I can concentrate on those that we're still have problems with.
