Hello Artphilia and Sheepcontrol.

I remember the old days chatting with Tammy about eFiction. Since 2008 I've been the tech support for a large efiction website that has over 2200 members and almost 3200 stories. We have currently been integrating our database and members into a new WordPress custom community of social media and fan fiction combined. In time we could have features that exceed Facebook today.
I've got many years working with efiction. My php skills are average; however, for matters above me, like complex plugins, we hire outside developers as needed.

I'm very interested in obtaining the responsibility of taking efiction to the next level, and I'm in a unique position to do some very exciting things with the platform for us.

There are some finer details to discuss with you since we would incorporate and seek outside private funding. We can't appear to be at risk for any legal action regarding ownership of any part of the software we will be using.

We should discuss this in private.

Sincerely,

bob
Robert Brown
Admin and Tech Support for MidnightWhispers.com and SSW.media
nocrashrc@yahoo.com

Hello! I know the developer focus right now is on eFic 5, but my archive is getting bombarded by bots and spammers this week, 3 spammers registered in the last 2 days and 1 of those getting off about 75 spam reviews before I could do anything >.< and I know another archive having the same problems. So I wanted to make a plea for anyone savvy with this kind of stuff to share their anti-spam measure and if they have any mods that helps them reduce the spam on their current 3.5.x installs!

Right now, I have it set up so users are sent their passwords, I have Bad Behavior installed, and I added this mod so that admins get an email alert when there's a new registration.

This is all a huge help, but the occasional mass spammer still gets through. The spammer I had get through today while I was asleep had a rather normal looking username, a kind of odd but possibly legit email and their IP address didn't turn up any red flags when I searched it, in other words even if I had seen the registration notice at the time, I really wouldn't have had any way of knowing it was a spammer until they posted reviews.

I wanted to make another plea for somehow setting it up so users need to be a validated reviewer before their stuff is published (much like how authors need to be validated for their stories to show up).

I know one archive that has a spam/security question set up, new users have to answer a fandom specific question or their registration will be denied, does anyone know how to set up such a thing on the registration form?

Any other anti-spam measure out there?

I'm working to get a multi-fandom archive up, and the old topics here have been incredibly helpful to us in tweaking the software to do what we'd like. However, there are a couple things I haven't been able to find a definitive answer on one way or the other, and I'm hoping someone can point us in the right direction.

1) We're planning on moderating submissions pretty significantly, so the queue is an important feature for us and probably the one I've had the least luck in finding the relevant mods for. We really want to figure out how to force edited chapters from unvalidated authors to return to the queue rather than being automatically approved, and while I've been on an old efiction site where that was the case, I feel like it probably had some pretty significant customization, so I have no idea how easy that is to do in general.

2) We've enabled star ratings and at this point, we're not requiring written reviews to go with them. However, what we'd really like is the ability to show how many ratings have been left - along the lines of: *** (20 ratings) - they're less useful when you don't know whether there are two ratings or eighty.

Does anyone have any suggestions for us?

Thank you so much!
